To any WWE fan CM Punk is a known name. After his unceremonious departure from professional wrestling almost a year ago Phil Brooks started training and looking around at MMA camps. Last night we found out why! Brooks signed a multi-fight contract with the UFC last night and will begin fighting some time in 2015. Do not expect this to be like when Lesner left the ring for the octagon though. Unlike Lesner, Brooks does not have a background in any martial art like Lesner had with wrestling. At best Brooks has been training for this for a few years and evn until earlier this year could not commit to full-time training because of his obligations to the WWE. The major problem that I see for Brooks is his inexperience. Even though he will be fighting people who are just establishing their UFC careers, like Brooks, these are people who have been training for this moment most of their lives and they know how they will react when the punches are real and the submissions will actually force you to tap or risk injuries. These are big glaring question marks for Brooks. I have nothing but respect for Brooks and all pro wrestlers for doing what they do, but I am left to ask myself, how much of this is just for him to hear the cheers of a crowd that he lost when he left the WWE?
