The NHL continues to prove it has the most parity in professional sports. Teams thought to be completely out of the playoffs as little as 4 weeks ago are now right there in the hunt, while some teams that were peaking have now come down to earth. Below are this week’s rankings.

Rank | Team | Analysis |
| Nashville Predators | The best team in the NHL, bar none. |
| New York Islanders | The top team in a tough Metropolitan Division, they are currently the top ranked in the East. |
| Montreal Canadiens | Carey Price is the best goalie in the NHL, and the Canadiens are riding him as far as he can take them. |
| New York Rangers | This team is firing on all cylinders without their world-class goalie, Henrik Lundqvist. Their speed is killing their opponents. |
| St. Louis Blues | Have had some minor bumps recently, but this team is still in the top 5 of the NHL. |
| Anaheim Ducks | Lots of talent, but inconsistent play recently has dropped them down the rankings. |
| Tampa Bay Lightning | Another team that is in the upper-echelon but has been inconsistent. The Lighting were on top of their division, but that lead slipped away. |
| Los Angeles Kings | The Kings have put together a nice winning streak of late, putting them back in the playoff race |
| Minnesota Wild | If the Wild had a better overall record, they could easily be #1, that said they are the hottest team in the league right now. |
| Detroit Red Wings | This team will continue their consecutive playoff streak. What an organization. |
| Washington Capitals | The Capitals are moving up the ranks of the Metropolitan Division, a division tougher than originally thought. |
| Pittsburgh Penguins | Pittsburgh continues to be a Jekyll and Hyde team, and thus they are lower in the power rankings. |
| Chicago Blackhawks | Speaking of Jekyll and Hyde, what happened to the ‘Hawks offense? The homestand has not been pretty. |
| Philadelphia Flyers | The Flyers have come out of nowhere to make the playoff race interesting. They have strung together a nice points streak in the process. |
| Vancouver Canucks | Tough to lose Goalie Ryan Miller, this team should be good enough to make the playoffs, but right now they are not good enough to be higher than the middle of the pack in our rankings. |
| Winnipeg Jets | Not a good week last week for the Jets, they need to rectify their game or they will slip out of the playoff race. |
| Florida Panthers | The Panthers have a fighting chance to make the playoffs, they just need to string together a few wins in a row. |
| San Jose Sharks | Brutal loss in the Stadium Series against LA, this team is too talented to be out of the playoffs, yet, as of today they would not make it. |
| Calgary Flames | Mark Giordano continues to impress and is making a name for the Norris Trophy race. However, they are currently riding a 3 game losing streak. |
| Colorado Avalanche | The Avalanche are playing better than the start of the season, however, it is likely too little too late for them. |
| Boston Bruins | Other than the utter beat-down of Chicago Sunday, this team has been a train wreck. The loss of David Krejci is devastating. |
| Dallas Stars | This team just does not play defense, which is killing their opportunities to win. |
| Columbus Blue Jackets | The team works hard, but there is just not enough talent to win games. |
| New Jersey Devils | The oldest team in the league is riding a 4 game winning streak, their longest of the season. They are still below .500. |
| Ottawa Senators | This team has been consistently average the entire season, just not good enough. |
| Edmonton Oilers | I hate not having these guys at the bottom, but they have played better as of late. |
| Carolina Hurricanes | Terrible attendance and worse play, this team is bad, but actually better than the bottom three. |
| Arizona Coyotes | Did I say terrible attendance? Arizona could be the worst, this team is riding a bad losing streak, are they trying to win the draft lottery? |
| Toronto Maple Leafs | There are a lot of L’s on their schedule the past week, it was almost a miracle the beat Winnipeg on Saturday. |
| Buffalo Sabres | Is it draft day yet? |
