Mayor Faulconer of San Diego has outlined a proposal in his State of the City address last week of keeping the Chargers in San Diego forming a task force to study the exact cost of a new facility that would be beneficial to both the Chargers and the City of San Diego.
Mark Fabiani, Chief Legal Counsel for the Chargers, is opposed to having Steve Cushman on this task force due to frictions in the past. The Mayor has not said Mr. Cushman would be part of this new project. It is Mayor Faulconer’s contention to have this study done by the end of 2015 to get this on the ballot. I would hope Mr. Fabiani and Mayor Faulconer could amicably settle their differences for the good of the city and Charger fans.
Let us not let something like this be the cause of giving the San Diego Chargers an outlet to leave town by 2016. We all need cooler heads to prevail and do what is best for our city. We have been at this juncture before without real concrete financial proposals to see the cost of the facility. The NFL, Dean Spanos (the team owner) and the City of San Diego should find the best means without using taxpayer dollars. This facility should benefit not only the Chargers, but help our tourist industry as well. If the Convention Center is part of the package, it will get more parties to share in the cost of it.
I am hoping we will see some movement on both sides to get this done and not wait around to see if LA will build a Stadium first. Anyone who wants to comment on this article please do. I do not want team to move to LA. They can get their own team not ours.
