The Minnesota Wild is the talk of so many either by twitter, Facebook or any other social media there is to read. It is so strange to sit down in front of the TV and just expect a win. It seems it has been a while since we can say that about any of our favorite Minnesota teams that we love. The 2009-2010 Minnesota Vikings lead by Bret Favre might be the last year we can possibly even say this.
The Wild are putting up staggering numbers that back in December-January I don’t know if this would even be remotely thought of. The team was in 12th place and media speculation along with fans that Coach Mike Yeo may need to leave.
The amount of stats I have found by way of social media is staggering and almost insanely scary how good this Wild team is.
-The fact that since the All Star game happened out of a possible 56 points the Wild have earned 45 in a 28 games.
-The date of January 15th to now the team has the NHL best record going 24-6-2 and the 45 points is also a league best.
-The Wild now are currently on a 10 game road winning streak. Minnesota is the first team in the NHL to do this since San Jose did it in 2007.
-The 10 wins in a row also sets another team record as point streak of 10 games now passes the old record of 9 when they 7-0-2 back on February 22-March 17,2007.
-Minnesota is also an impressive 33-6-3 for the year when scoring the first goal of the game.
-Minnesota’s leading goal scorer, Zach Parise got his 39th shootout goal Tuesday night in the New York Islanders game. This number ties him for 2nd amongst NHL players.
-Thomas Vanek had a lead leading 8 game scoring streak snapped in the Islanders game.
-Devan Dubnyk is the star of the show and his numbers are unthinkable and can only think this can keep on going on. Devan started his 33rd game in a row vs New York Islanders which is the longest streak by a goalie since January 15-April 4, 2011 done by A. Niemi (San Jose)
-Dubnyk is 2nd in the NHL with a 2, 07 goals against average, a .930 save percentage and tied for 4th in shutouts with 6.
-Devan is 14-1-1 on the road with a 1.44 goals against average, a .952 save percentage and 3 shutouts in 17 starts.
I don’t know the reasons as a fan any more than anyone else. I just know I love watching the Wild and feel this is finally the year a Minnesota team will finally win a championship for the first time since Twins 1987 and 1991.
